If you have been job hunting for a while, you have probably seen this too many times
Entry level role 2 to 3 years experience required
At some point, it starts to feel like a joke. How are you supposed to get experience if no one is willing to give you a chance
But here is something most people do not tell you. Those requirements are not always as strict as they look
Most employers are not just looking for years of experience. What they really want is someone who can actually do the job or at least show potential. The problem is, a lot of people disqualify themselves before even trying
So what really counts as experience
It is not just full time jobs
Things like internships, volunteering, freelance gigs, or even personal projects can count if you present them well. If you have ever worked on something that shows your skills, that is experience
For example, if you are interested in marketing and you have grown a small Instagram page or helped someone promote a business, that is something. It may not look like much to you, but to the right employer, it shows initiative
How to get around the experience required problem
First, stop waiting until you feel ready. You might be waiting forever
Start small. Build something. Try things on your own. The goal is to have something you can point to and say I have done this before
Next, work on how you present yourself. A lot of CVs just list duties. That is not enough. Talk about what you actually achieved, even if it is small
Also, do not underestimate internships or volunteer work. They might not pay much or at all, but they can open doors if you use them well
And honestly, just apply anyway
You do not need to meet everything listed. If you are close enough and you can show potential, you still have a chance
